Children and young people urged to stop using derelict buildings as playgrounds.

Freeman House on Freeman Street, Grimsby has recently become insecure and has become an attraction for youths, arsonists and thieves.

Sergeant Will Harrison from Grimsby Community Policing Team said: “Freeman House’s progressively degrading state poses a significant risk to those who enter the building and emergency services attending.

“These trespassers are risking their lives entering dangerous buildings, as well as the emergency service staff who are deployed.

“I would echo the statement made by our colleagues in Humberside Fire and Rescue to appeal to parents to do their bit in preventing the risk of injury and of anti-social behaviour. Please make sure you know where your children are and speak to them about making sure they don’t put themselves at needless risk by playing in empty or derelict buildings.

“Responding to calls to the site also puts a drain on available resources which means we are unable to attend other incidents in the area.”
